The Siamese is a medium-sized cat with a long, lithe body that is graceful and elegant. The body is well-balanced and athletic, with slender legs and oval-shaped feet. The head resembles a triangle, tapering in straight lines to form a thin muzzle. The ears are large and erect. 

The eyes are almond-shaped and angled towards the nose. The tail, long and gradually tapering, does not show any breaks. The main color of their short, thin, body-length coat is light, with darker, intensely colored tips. The colored tips only touch the mask area, ears, legs, and tail, which are the coldest parts of the body. A variety of colors are allowed for the coat. The eye color will be intense and vivid blue for all coat colors and all patterns.

 

Types of Siamese Cats

The Siamese are distinguished according to their variety (morphology) and dress color.

The official Siamese LOOF standard is American.

The Thai also called the "Siamese old type" has become a breed in its own right in the LOOF since December 2002. However, the Apple Head, a derivative of the Thai is not officially recognized.

The English Siamese is the most common types of Siamese cats. Its head, with large pointed ears, forms an equilateral triangle. Its body is slender, the tail relatively thin and pointed at the end.

 Thai Siamese. It was created from the English Siamese by breeders wanting to recreate the original Siamese, that is to say, identical to the one brought back from Thailand. His head is rounder, his ears shorter. The tail is fuller, but not as much as the European cat. He is the most successful variety.

The Apple Head Siamese or "apple head" is the culmination of selection aimed at reproducing the original Siamese. It is a copy of the Royal Cat of Siam (another name for the Siamese) who lived in the Thai forests. With a round head and small ears, he is muscular and athletic. Our Siamese is all Seal Point. This color, the most common one types of Siamese cat, is the only one that man has not created. Siamese coats are composed of the color:

Since the end of the 19th century, many crosses have been made, and around twenty colors have been selected. For example, in the case of Point (dark ear tips, legs, tail, and face), the allele (a part of a chromosome that contains several genes) is recessive. Both parents must be Point to have Point kittens exclusively. However, when mating a Point parent with a parent of another coat, the kittens will not necessarily be Point.

The Point gene has the characteristic that it is sensitive to heat, so it is only expressed in the coldest areas of the coat, that is to say, the tail, the legs, and the face.

In addition, the light color of the Siamese is due to an albino gene. Because of this gene, the Siamese have the fundus of the retina red and not yellow when they stare at a light source.

The Siamese coat darkens with age. He acquires his final color around the age of 1 year.

Origin of the Siamese

Siamese is one of the most popular pedigree cat breeds in the UK, coming in second only to British Shorthairs in terms of numbers. The Siamese, which have been around for hundreds of years, come from what is now Thailand. Siamese was brought to Britain in the 1880s.
